Lumber baron and philanthropist James VanDuzee Brown had dreamed for years of giving the city a free, public library, an idea which was suggested by his late wife, Carile Brown. In his will, Brown bequeathed $400,000 to the city, and stipulated that $150,000 be used to erect and endow a public library at the corner of Fourth and State Streets. The James V. Brown Library opened its doors in June 1907. City Hall Grand Hotel would like to thank the library for allowing us to borrow and restore the many pictures seen in our hotel.
Our traditional rooms, with their large windows and soft colors, provide a very comfortable atmosphere. Private toilet/shower rooms are brightly lit as well, and the original charm and character of this old city hall adds to the beauty of each room.
“The Library” (Suite 203) has some wonderful bonus features, including a cozy reading room with a chaise lounge and an electric fireplace just outside the bath. Included in this quaint nook, are plenty of books from which to choose if you prefer a quiet evening in. This room also has a mini-fridge, microwave and Keurig machine.
Like the HULK Rooms, the history of Williamsport is proudly on display in our traditional rooms and suites, with some pictures dating back to the late 1800s. The lovingly-restored photographs of our hotel, including a few floor-to-ceiling applications, allow each visitor a chance to stroll through our city’s rich history.
Whether every visit brings our guest back to a favorite room, or sparks the curiosity to see what is in the next room, we are sure that each visit will be a historical one.
In this Suite: Hair dryer, iron/ironing board, Keurig machine, mini refrigerator. A comfortable, common lobby with vending machine, ice maker, microwave and Keurig machine can also be found on the THIRD FLOOR, off the elevator to the left.
