Williamsport has been entertained by many local bands since the first half of the 19th century, including the Fisk Military Band, the Hammer Band (directed by John Hazel) and the Little German Band, just to name a few.  The Repasz Band, which first performed in 1831 has been in continuous existence since it was founded the same year, is the oldest American community band.

The Repasz Band, named for its fourth drector Daniel Repasz, has an impressive musical heritage, having performed for many civic and military events.  In 1865, the Band played at Lee’s surrender at Appomattox.  They delighted audiences at the original dedication of President Grant’s Tomb in 1897, in New York City, as well as the Tomb’s rededication exactly 100 years later.  Members represented the 12th PA National Guard in the inaugural parades of T. Roosevelt and W.H. Taft.  Please visit the band’s website at http://repaszband.org to see the impressive list of notable engagements.

The band is known for the “Repasz Band March,” one of the most popular band marches in the world.

“THE BAND ROOM” (Room 110) has a few unique features:  Utilizing one of the vaults of the old city hall, this room has a shower that is sure to amaze every guest. This room also has a separate sitting room with sofa, bar/stools, and TV.  In addition, it has a crazy closet with “go-nowhere” stairs!

Our new “LEGACY” rooms are quite unique with their large windows, soft colors, and “outside-the-box” layouts.  Private toilet/shower rooms are brightly lit as well, and the original charm and character of this old city hall adds to the beauty of each room. These new rooms also share a small foyer along with a private conference room (code-accessible), called “THE HANGAR”.

City Hall Grand Hotel would like to give “SPECIAL THANKS” and recognition to ALBERT J. NACINOVICH and his wife ALICE, and to the THOMAS TABOR MUSEUM who have allowed us to bring a mere glimpse of the band’s history to our guests.  No doubt, the Maestro’s 47-years with the band embraced a much larger picture of that history.
