Now in its third century, Lycoming College is a private, under-graduate college of the liberal arts and sciences.  One of the country’s fifty oldest colleges & universities, Lycoming has been co-educational since its founding in 1812 as the Williamsport Academy.

After being purchased by the Methodists (led by the Rev. Benjamin Crever) in 1848, the institution was renamed the “Williamsport Dickinson Seminary” and was moved to the current location just blocks from our hotel.  Dickinson experienced much growth in the 1920s under the leadership of John W. Long, who served as president from 1921 to 1955.  In 1929, it became the first private junior college in the state, and by 1947, this institution underwent its fourth metamorphosis as Lycoming College, a four-year institution of higher learning.

This ever-changing collegiate butterfly, with its charming tree-lined quad and its stately architecture, is the perfect blend of beauty and innovation.  If you are considering Lycoming College for your higher education, please visit their website at https://www.lycoming.edu.

“THE ART ROOM” (Room 112) has a wonderful bonus feature:  a magnificent spa-like soaking tub, which sits elegantly alone and surrounded by the six tall windows forming a semi-hexagonal space.  What a perfect way to pamper a weary traveler or two!  In addition, a shower and sink are located in the toilet room.

Our new “LEGACY” rooms are quite unique with their large windows, soft colors, and “outside-the-box” layouts.  Private toilet/shower rooms are brightly lit as well, and the original charm and character of this old city hall adds to the beauty of each room. These new rooms also share a small foyer along with a private conference room (code-accessible), called “THE HANGAR.”

A “SPECIAL THANKS” goes to Sean Baker, Archivist, and LYCOMING COLLEGE, who have granted access and use of a collection that is simply astounding, including the five foot by four foot wall application of the seminary’s art studio in Bradley Hall in 1933.  They, indeed, have shared a wealth of history with our guests.
